The Serotonin-Plus Weight Control Program emphasizes lots of protein intake and minimizes carbohydrates and fruits. Given this dietary philosophy, what is the very best breakfast to eat? The answer is eggs and some sort of breakfast meat. For those people that really enjoy eggs, bacon and/or sausage, this meal becomes quite easy to strategize.
However, a lament that we often hear at our clinic: “I am tired of eating eggs!” Yep, eating the same thing all of the time does become quite mundane and boring. Sustainability of dietary intake is often threatened by feelings such as boredom and deprivation. So, what are the alternatives?
Greek yogurts contain a higher amount of protein than other yogurts so perhaps this becomes a substitute. Very low fat cheese contains protein and although not as good a source of protein for weight loss than eggs, the type of cheese can be varied and that may limit boredom.
I know as an internal medicine resident, my colleagues and I were up all hours of the day and night, so the title of the meal became irrelevant so w would find ourselves eating burgers or chicken at breakfast time and breakfast type foods at dinner time. This supports the concept that there are no “rules” when it comes to what can be eaten at the different meal times so if a can of tuna or a chicken breast becomes “breakfast”, so be it.
I most certainly “get it”, meaning that the consumption of eggs for breakfast day in and day out is very challenging. Seek creative ways of varying egg preparations or mix it up a bit with some of the proteins mentioned above. And I would bet that Nataliya is posting an egg recipe at the bottom of this blog entry!
