Here is a definition of “REGRETS”: feel sad, repentant, or disappointed over something that has happened or been done, especially a lost or missed opportunity.
I believe that all of us have, at times in our lives, experienced the feeling of “regrets”. This could apply to numbers of situations including:
- Regrets about relationships we have gotten into/gotten out of
- Regrets about job positions we took/did not take
- Regrets about investment decisions we made
- Regrets about parenting involvements we did/did not make
- Regrets about how we handled personal conflicts with friends, co-workers and/or loved ones
This list could be extended to many other bullet points.
Turning our attention to the healthcare arena: The concept of “regrets” is applicable as well, including:
- Regrets about opting for a surgical procedure and the results did not come out as planned
- Regrets about not going in for routine, recommended testing when a serious medical condition is discovered that could have been picked up at a much earlier, easier treatable phase
- Regrets about having smoked cigarettes or ingested too much alcohol for many years that eventually results in serious lung or liver issues
And of course, focusing on weight control: If/when a serious co-morbidity of being overweight/obese occurs, such as diabetes, stroke, heart attack or cancer, there will clearly be a sense of regret for not acting on the weight issue much sooner.
There are many regrets that we will all feel as life transpires for us. Let’s all take away the regrets about not being focused and steadfast on weight control efforts. Start NOW.
And for me?
Regrets, I’ve had a few…but then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
(Opps…plagiarism alert….I just lifted the words from one of Old Blue Eye’s most famous songs, “My Way”…Enjoy!
