Any Beatles fans out there? Paul McCartney wrote a song called “The Long and Winding Road” in 1968 but this was not released fully until 1970. The Beatles actually broke up their group that year. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr went on to follow their own individual careers and unfortunately, only Paul and Ringo remain alive, with John being murdered in 1980 and George dying from cancer in 2001.
The Long and Winding Road is sort of a sad song and Mr. McCartney has stated that the major inspiration in writing the song was the nostalgia he felt for all that the group went through together to become so famous and successful. The group was bickering at the time he wrote the song and he sort of knew this was all coming to an unfortunate end.
Away from music nostalgia and focusing on weight control: What analogies am I referring to as I am discussing this 50 year old Beatle’s song?
Here goes:
The journey to successful weight control is not a “straight and easy” road, but rather, a “long and winding” one. There will be glitches, potholes, setbacks and other barriers to success along the way. When these occur, there are two choices: One is to become discouraged, quit on your efforts and basically “give up”. The other route is to rise above the setbacks and continue with positive energy to reach your goals.
In the weight control arena, successfully navigating that “Long and Winding Road” brings you to the destination of better health, happiness and longevity. The journey is not as easy one but is very much worth the efforts. Do NOT break up the band…keep on the journey.
